Thane, Apr 8 (UNI) Senior Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi has expressed that Marathi language and Bhojpuri dialect could be used together for the cultural development of Maharashtra.

While inaugurating the three-day first World Bhojpuri Sammelan here last night, Mr Joshi said Bhojpuri is a sweet dialect and the Bhojpuri belt is not only famous for its rich rooted culture and hard working people, it has also given several great leaders to the country.

Therefore, Marathi and Bhojpuri could together form a rich cultural platform in the State and help in its cultural development, the former Lok Sabha Speaker said.

He noted that Bhojpuri, a dialect of Hindi language and spoken in Western Bihar, parts of Eastern UP and some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Nepal, does not have an official base in Maharashtra, unlike several other languages which are being promoted by their representative organisations here.

Meanwhile, thousands of people from Bhojpuri community are attending the international meet here, where a number of issues concerning the dialect and its people would be discussed.

On the occasion, UP Industries Minister Durgaprasad Mishra, former minister from Mauritius Jagdish Govarden, Thane Mayor Rajan Vichare, MLC Anant Tare and sammelan president Paramahans Tripathi were also present.
