Eleven injured in clash

Sangli, Maharashtr), Apr 8 (UNI) At least 11 people were injured when two groups of a workers union clashed in Amanandnagar-Kirloskarwadi of this district today.

Police fired about six rounds of fire in the air to disperse the two groups after lathi-charge.

Police sources said that there was a dispute over the leadership of the workers union in the Kirloskar engineering industrial unit between two groups, one led by P T Wagh and the other by Balasaheb Pawar, his brother Sarjerao and Mahendra Lad, a relative of state Cooperative Minister Patangrao Kadam.

The incident occurred when Mr wagh and his supporters entered the factory and beat Pawar brothers, residents of Kundal.

As soon as the news reached Kundal, a mob of supporters of Pawar brothers attacked the house where Mr Wagh and his supporters were seated, the sources said.

When the mob, shouting slogans against Mr Wagh and his supporters, set afire the house, police opened fire in the air to control the situation, the sources said.

District Superintendent of Police Milind Bharambe visted the spot to take stock of the situation. No arrests have been made so far, the sources added.
