Drug retailers on indefinite strike in Rajasthan
Jaipur, Apr 8 (UNI) Around 25,000 medical drug retailers here went on an indefinite strike against the imposition of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the state.
The protestors, under the banner of Rajasthan Retail Chemist Association (RRCA), demanded the imposition of tax on the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) instead of VAT.
Patients had a harrowing time looking for medicines as all medicine shops in the state were closed after the strike which began yesterday.
The RRCA said the VAT system would cause numerous problems to them as they would have to maintain books. It blamed the Rajasthan Chemist Association (RCA) of not taking the retail chemists into confidence before opting for VAT.
However, the RCA reiterated that VAT would benefit the retailers.
