Demonstration in Kathmandu despite curfew ;Dozens arrested

Kathmandu, Apr 8 (UNI) The seven Nepalese Political parties and their alliance partners continued their protest despite the Curfew imposed by the government in various parts of the Kathmandu valley today.

More than three dozen leaders and activists were arrested for defying the curfew in various parts of the valley. At least half a dozen were injured in a clash with police when around hundreds of protestors took out a rally at Maitidevi defying curfew at 1030 hrs local time.

Human rights leader Daman Nath Dhungana and other activists were arrested this afternoon for defying the curfew in Kathmandu.

The situation in Kirtipur was tense after the protestors fled on seeing the security forces. More than 5000 students and locals chanting anti-king slogans have blocked the road. They also urged the security forces to join them in the struggle against the autocratic rule.

The protestors also staged demonstrations in Patan, Chabail, Ratnapark, Kalanki, Gongabhu, shouted anti-king slogans and burnt tyres in other parts of the city. The police fired tear gas shell and rubber guns to quell the mob.

One person was killed and two others were injured when security men opened fire at seven-parties alliance protestors in Pokhara today, the third day of the nationwide general strike called by the alliance.

Similarly more than 50,000 protestors took to the streets in Chitwan, chanting slogans against the monarchy and in favour of republicanism.

The protestors have chased away the security men and have taken under control all administrative offices. They have declared the Chitwan district a ''democratic zone.'' The Nepal Government has imposed curfew in the capital Kathmandu and had cut off all the mobile services just a few hours before a scheduled grand demonstration by the seven Political parties.

The curfew has been imposed in most part of the country this evening.
