Cases against NBA leader, 50 others

Badwani (MP), Apr 8 (UNI) Police today registered cases against 51 people, including a Narmada Bachao Andolan leader, for blocking road of three Union Ministers while visiting villages affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project in Madhya Pradesh.

Superintendent of Police Dineshchandra Sharma said NBA leader Ashish Mandloi and 50 other people had blocked the road when Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz, Social Justice Minister Meira Kumar and Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan were proceeding to an affected village during their visit yesterday.

Meanwhile, NBA's Umesh Patidar said the ministers had to go along a different route where dam-affected villagers were waiting to meet them. However, officials deliberately changed the route.

The protestors had peacefully urged the ministers to take the different route.

He alleged that police had cane charged protestors in front of ministers and injured 10 people.
