Amara Raja to expand battery capacity

Chennai, Apr 8 (UNI) Amara Raja Batteries Limited (ARBL) today announced expansion of its automotive battery capacity from three million units per annum to 3.6 million units at a cost of Rs 164 million.

The Board of Directors of Amara Raja Batteries has approved the expansion, an official release said.

The ARBL Board also approved investment of Rs 107 million in the expansion of the Industrial 2 Volt VRLA Battery capacity by nearly 50 per cent from 240 million AH to 350 million AH per annum.

Both the expansion would be completed by the end of the current financial year 2006-07.

ARBL Managing Director Jayadev Galla said the past 12 months have witnessed significant growth in top line and market share.

''With the completion of the current expansion proposal, we would have more than doubled automotive battery capacity in less than two years. Even with this expansion, we find demand for our batteries exceeding supply'', he added.
