Advani targets Congress, Communists for undermining EC
Vadodara, Apr 8 (UNI) BJP leader L K Advani today questioned the role of the Congress and Communist Parties in criticising the capacity of the Election Commission (EC) for holding free and fair elections.
Speaking to newspersons, Mr Advani, who is on the third day of his Bharat Suraksha Yatra, noted when the EC went all out against criminalisation during the Bihar Assembly elections, it was AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh who had questioned the role of E C Advisor K J Rao and now the Communist parties were doing the same in West Bengal polls.
''The Communist Parties, which were in power in West Bengal for the last 29 years, were often accused of indulging in 'scientific rigging' and the EC was trying to eliminate it, he said.
As far as the criminalisation of the Union Cabinet was concerned, the matter was before the Supreme Court, he added.
Mr Advani is to address road side rallies and meetings on his way to Surat at Rajpipla, Rajpardi, Netrang, Wadi, Bardoli and Mandvi.
