Uma announces candidate against Sonia

Gwalior (MP), Apr 7 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti today declared that her party would field social worker Prabha Singh against Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi in the coming by-election to Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat.

Talking to reporters at Jalalpur today, Ms Bharti said she didn't want to enter the electoral fray without a flag and party.

She was fielding Ms Singh in view of the Election Commission announcing the by-election.

Likewise, she has extended support to Gondwana Ganatantra Party (GGP) candidate against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the coming by-election to Budhni assembly constituency.

She said she will address election meetings for the GGP candidate in case GGP election incharge Dilip Singh Bhuria wanted her to do so.

However, she said, the GGP's electoral campaigning involved house-to-house publicity and not organising election meetings.

Extending support to Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar, the fiery sanyasin said displacement must not hurt villagers.

Underlining the importance of power for the nation's development, she said the process will cause inconvenience to some people but the government must ensure appropriate compensation and proper rehabilitation for displaced.

She criticised registering of attempt to suicide case against Ms Patkar for resorting to indefinite hunger strike saying Mahatma Gandhi had performed many similar 'Satyagrah Andolans'.

The expelled BJP leader said she intended to build a strong organisational structure before announcing her party and she was bringing her supporters together in this regard.

She said party workers were being given priority in view of lessons learnt from the BJP's mistakes.

The BJP's organisational structure was good initially but the party structure collapsed with the same pace as the party expanded.

Ms Bharti said she was preparing district level workers for her party and district units will be constituted in six states within 90 days after floating the new political outfit.
