SR on speed track, earns more
Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 7 (UNI) The Southern Railway has earned Rs 2,675 crore compared to previous year's earning of Rs 2,365 crore, marking an increase of 13 per cent.
A Railway release said the overall freight loading had increased from 23.5 million tonne to 27.4 million tonne, an increase of alomost 3.9 million tonnes over the previous year.
Correspondingly, the freight earnings of Southern Railway had shown substantial increase from Rs 835 crore to Rs 1,041 crore, an increase of Rs 206 crore, an increase of 25 per cent.
The overall passenger traffic had increased from 463 million to 511 million passengers, an increase of 48 million passengers.
During 2004-2005, 1,074 special trains were operated compared to 1,608 special trains during the year 2005-2006 showing an increase of 50 per cent.
