SP to rake AMU issue in Parliament
Lucknow, Apr 7 (UNI) Samajwadi Party will rake up the issue of restoration of minority status to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Parliament session starting from May 10.
Addressing a news conference here today, senior SP leader and former Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma blamed the Congress for disturbing secular credentials.
''Congress has taken several anti-minority steps after coming to power. The revocation of AMU minorty status is a burning example in this regard,'' he alleged.
The SP parliamentarian also charged Congress president Sonia Gandhi with trying to mislead the masses in the name of secularism.
''AMU cannot regain minority status unless a legislation is passed in Parliament and the Congress is well aware of this fact.'' UNI VS CH PC1638
