Senior UP BJP leader prevented from visiting riot torn Aligarh
Kanpur, Apr 7 (UNI) The Leader of Opposition in Uttar Pradesh assembly Lalji Tandon, on way to Aligarh, was prevented by police from progressing to the riottorn city, at the Kanpur Central Railway Station here today.
The senior BJP leader, on way to Aligarh to assess the situation in the curfew bound city, was stopped at the Kanpur Central railway station here by Police Superintendent Sabha Raj Singh and ADM Abrar Ahmad in pursuance with a state government directive.
Apprehending that the tense situation in Aligarh may compound further following the leader's visit the government directed the officials here not to allow Mr Tandon to go any further, following which he had to return.
Later, interacting with mediapersons here the leader of opposition in UP alleged that terrorist activities were on the rise in UP, accentuated by the blast in Varanasi and Ayodhya and riots in Mau, Lucknow and now Aligarh. The Mulayam Singh government has failed to take any action against the terrorists and anti-social elements vitiating the atmospehre in UP, he added.
Mr Tandon further said that being the leader of opposition he was duty bound to visit the riot hit city, to assess the facts first hand. The BJP leader, later returned to the state capital.
