Reservation to OBCs no violation of Election Code:Cong
New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Congress today said the Government's move to provide reservation to the OBCs in unaided and autonomous educational institutions was not a violation of the model code of conduct.
"The Government is only doing what it is constitutionally and legally permitted to do," Congress Spokesman Rajeev Shukla said.
He pointed out that after the Supreme Court had struck down caste-based reservations in educational institutions, the Government had introduced a Bill for reservation in educational institutions which was unanimously adopted by Parliament.
The move made by the Government for reservation to OBCs was a step in the implementation of that law, Mr Shukla said.
About the Opposition criticism of Prime Minister's announcement made during Haryana visit, the Congress Spokesman said the Opposition was criticising the Prime Minister just for criticism sake.
