Govt amend constitution to facilitate reservations: SFI
New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Students Federation of India today said it was not against the proposed 27 per cent reservation of seats for the OBCs in central universities, IIMs, IITs and other educatioonal institutions and instead wanted the government to amend the constitution in this regard.
Stressing that reservation to OBCs were prevalent in several states, the SFI in a release said the government should bring a legislation to provide reservation in self-financing institutions.
The argument that reservation was against merit and brough sub-standard students to reputed institutions was baseless as they had to pass the "prescribed eligibility criteria," it added.
