Dozens of pro-democracy people arrested in Nepal
Kathmandu, Apr 7 (UNI) Security personnel have detained dozens of pro-democracy activists from various parts of Kathmandu on second day of the four-day general strike called for restoration of democracy in Nepal.
More than three dozen supporters of the seven parties including central members of the CPN, UML Ashta Laxmi Shakya and Krishna Gopal Shrestha were arrested when they carried out protest rallies defying the ban from different parts of the city including Ason, Chhetrapati, New Baneshwore, Koteshwore, Chabbhil, Tripureshwore and Balaju.
Students and police clashed at various places here, sources said.
Police used tear gas shells to disperse protestors shouting slogans against the King in Patandhoka area.
The general strike has crippled life with closure of major cities and towns of the country.
Meanwhile, doctors, nurses and students of medicine also joined the movement of the political parties by organising a protest at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital premises in Maharajgunj.
