NGOs express solidarity

Itanagar, Apr 07: Expressing solidarity with the fasting Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar, representatives of various NGOs in Arunachal Pradesh today staged a day long dharna here today to join their counterparts across the country.

Holding placards, representatives of Arunachal Citizens' Rights, Tribal Survival, Sparsh of Centre for Environment and Development, Arunachal Pradesh Rights to Information Bureau, Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Association, Arunachal Pradesh unit of Human Rights Law Network and Global Human Rights Organization took out a procession covering the main thoroughfare of the state capital before holding a sit-in dharna along the National Highway 52A.

Ms Patkar, who has been on hunger strike for the last seven days, has turned down Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's request to end her fast, saying she would continue her agitation till the government makes public its report on the rehabilitation of the families affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project.
