Two Arun Gawli's aid arrested

Mumbai, Apr 6 (UNI) Two aides of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli were arrested by Detection Crime Branch (DCB) of Mumbai Police in a extortion case here.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Pratap Singh Rathod said today that accused Sada Panchal and Raja Khadvilkar were arrested last night from Agripada area for their involvement in demanding extortion money from builder Mohammed Qureshi of southcentral Mumbai in November last year.

Mr Rathod said that Mr Qureshi had registered a complaint with Agripada police that Gawli's aides had demanded extortion money to allow him to do the construction business in the area.

He said that after registering the complaint, Mr Gawli had moved anticipatory bail in Mazgaon court.

Additional Session Court Judge Abhay Thipsay had granted him anticipatory bail but the police had challeged the bail order in Bombay High Court, he said.

The High court had directed City Civil and Session court Principal Judge R R Wachha to assign a court for re-hearing of the anticipatory bail of Mr Gawli.

In this case Sunil Ghate, a corporator has already been arrested, The duo were produced before Metrpolitan Magistrate (holiday) court, who remanded them to police custody till April 12 , Mr Qureshi added.
