Govt postpones CET due to polls
Chennai, Apr 6: The Tamil Nadu Government has postponed the Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to professional courses for the academic year 2006-2007 to May 18 and 19 in view of the Assembly elections.
The Government had earlier announced that CET would be held for students of all streams of education on May 13 and 14. This was announced in the context of the pendency of the Special Leave Petition filed by the Government in the Supreme Court, an official release here said.
However, the Vice Chancellor of Anna University, the apex body of technical institutions in the state, had recommended a small shift in the schedule.
As many of the centres, which were to function as examination centres for the holding of CET were also likely to be selected as counting centres in the ensuing elections, it would pose some difficulty in holding CET on May 13 and 14, he had said.
Taking note of the Vice Chancellor's recommendation, the Government had decided to hold CET on May 18 and 19 instead of the dates announced earlier, the release added.
