Chandigarh, Apr 6 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today stayed the Haryana government notification of February six where it had levied a tax of Rs 60 per seat per year on the buses of private educational institutions used for ferrying students.

The Court's division bench of Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel and Justice S D Anand has also issued notice for May 30 to the Haryana Transport Commissioner and others to file the response to the subject raised by the petitioners.

The matter had been brought before the Court by Raj Kumar Lamba, Principal of Tagore Bal Niketan Senior Secondary School in Karnal and 19 principals of other private schools based in Karnal.

They have sought directions to quash the newly levied passenger tax on the buses of educational institution arguing that only students and not the passengers were transported through these vehicles.

Filed similar petitions filed by some schools of Faridabad and other places is already pending before the high court and in that case too the operation of the impugned notification was stayed.
