SE Railway achieves record-breaking performance

Kolkata, Apr 6 (UNI) South Eastern Railway has achieved record-breaking performance in originating freight loading during the fiscal 2005-06.

During this period, S E Railway had loaded 85.86 million ton of originating freight, 12.79 million ton more than that of last year thus registering a growth of approximately 18 per cent.

This incremental loading to the tune of 12.79 million ton was the highest among all the zonal railways of the country.

The major contributing factor to achieve this record-breaking performance in freight traffic during the year was carrying of raw materials to steel plant. During the period S E Railway had achieved a record loading of 25.05 million ton of raw materials to steel plants, 4.24 million ton more as compared to last year.

The other components of loading were 19.28 million ton of coal, 20.10 million ton of general merchandised goods, 8 million ton of finished products from steel plant, 6.49 million ton of export ore, 4.81 million ton of cement, 05 million ton of foodgrains, 0.58 million ton of fertiliser and 1.50 million ton of POL.

As a result of this commendable performance S E Railway had been able to generate originating freight earnings of Rs 3970 crore as against Rs 3030 crore during 2004-05, Rs 940 crore more than last year, thus registering a growth of 31 per cent.
