SBI strike takes its toll on people in Asom
Guwahati, Apr 6 (UNI) About five lakh government employees and pensioners in Asom are still awaiting their salary and pension for the month of March as the indefinite strike launched by the State Bank of India (SBI) employees continued to cripple banking operation in the state for the fourth day today.
While a larger section of people in general are suffering because of the SBI stir, the state government transaction in Asom has come to a grinding halt as it is totally dependent on SBI operations.
Like in Asom, most of other northeastern state governments carry out regular transactions through the SBI which has over 460 branches in the region.
Employees and officers of the bank here staged demonstrations and raised slogans demanding revision on the ceiling of pension payable to retired SBI employees at 50 per cent of the last pay drawn.
