SBI strike disrupts banking operations, people affected

Imphal, Apr 06 (UNI) The nation-wide strike by the State Bank of India that entered fourth day today affected this northeastern state of Manipur badly.

The state government largely depended on the sixteen SBI branches for financial transactions.

Hundreds of people are coming to the main branch of the bank everyday here to inquire about the status of the strike and return empty handed.

The strike has also caused problems to Manipuris as they use Rs 10 denominations at social and religious functions. Only SBI provides notes in small denominations in the state.

SBI Staff Association (Kolkata) vice-president T.H.Rohinikumar said crores of transactions of rupees have been halted due to ongoing agitatio by the SBI employees.
