Rain plays spoil sport in campaign plans
South Salmara, Dhubri, Apr 6 (UNI) Incessant rain has ruined campaign plans for the second phase polls in Asom leaving frustrated candidates with no option but to bide their time.
With the weatherman predicting more rains in the next few days, parties will be left with little time before campaigning ends on April 8.
Sixty-one constituencies will go to polls in the second phase scheduled to be held on April 10.
Various leaders had to cancel 'helicopter meetings', a huge draw here, due to inclement weather. They will now have to travel long distances by road, cutting short the campaign trail of the influential leaders.
In a novel experiment, Asom United Democratic Front President Maulana Badruddin Ajmal addressed a rally in Samaguri, 175 kms from here, on his cell phone, sitting in his car in Guwahati.
As Public meetings could not draw the expected crowd, many opted for candidates door-to-door campaign to garner support.
Rains had affected polling in the first phase as well.
