Nabi found guilty, gets one-month suspended prison term
Melbourne, Apr 6 (UNI) Much to the embarrassment for India, Melbourne Megistrates' Court today found Diwan Asghar Nabi, the masseur with Indian Commonwealth Games contingent, guilty of kissing and groping a teenage volunteer in the Victoria capital and handed him a month-long suspended prision sentence.
The 35-year-old masseur had pleaded not guilty to the court on two accounts of indecent assault.
The 16-year-old schoolgirl submitted to the court that Nabi kissed and fondled her while she was collecting towels from his room in the Games village on March 13 -- just after Indian contigent's arrival to Melbourne.
Magistrate Charles Rozencwajg sentenced Nabi to a month in prison wholly suspended for 12 months, for physically assaulting the schoolgirl.
However, the ruling does not prevent Nabi from leaving the country although he finds his name on the sex offenders list in Australia.
