Kalam to take part in Gen Thimayya's birth centenary

Mysore, Apr 6 (UNI) The birth centenary of Gen K S Thimayya will be celebrated tomorrow at Madikeri, the birth place of the General, with President A P J Abdul Kalam gracing the occasion.

An elaborate programme was being organised at the Field Marshal K M Cariappa College grounds under the joint auspices of the Federation of Kodava Samajas and Gen K S Thimayya Birth Centenary Celebrations Committee.

In view of the President visiting Madikeri town, police have made elaborate arrangements and traffic regulations. Mr Kalam would arrive from Bangalore by a helicopter and address the gathering after attending the birth centenary celebrations. He would also interact with about 500 students.

Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi would release a souvenir on the occasion and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy a postal stamp. The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Air Chief Marshal S P Tyagi would be the guests of honour.

Various adventure shows like sky diving by Air devils, Dare devils show by the military police, army band show and other cultural programmes have been arranged on the occasion. An audio visual presentation on the General's life had also been arranged.
