India to send wrestlers for World Varsities meet

Chandigarh, Apr 6 (UNI) The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) in consultation with the Association of Indian Universities will send a team in the seventh World Universities Wrestling Championship to be held at Ulan Bator in Mongolia from May 15 to 20.

According to WFI president Dr Mahinder Singh Malik competitions will be conducted in freestyle as well as Greco-Roman styles both for men and women at the Wrestling Palace in the capital of Mongolia.

The participants must have been born between January one, 1978 and December 31, 1988.

International University Sports Federation has appointed the Mongolian Student Sports Federation to organize the championship in which 23 countries have already confirmed their entries.

Meanwhile four wrestlers, including three products of Chaudhary Bharat Singh Memorial Sports School, Nidani in Jind district have returned from Rome after attending a 10-day training programme from March 27 to April 4. Those who got international exposure were Somvir, Abhimanyu, Mukesh and Mandeep.
