Four arrested for running illegal 'home'

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 6 (UNI) Police today busted an illegally run home for the mentally retarded people and arrested four persons, including a quack, at Poolangudi village, near here.

Police sources said that some of the inmates rescued from the home were found chained. The home was sealed and the 17 rescued inmates were later handed over to an NGO.

The incident came to light when a medical team from the Primary Health Centre of Navalapattu made a surprise inspection at the home, after five inmates were reported to be suffering from illness with symptoms of food poisoning.

The owner of the home, V Donabai, who called herself a homeopathy doctor, failed to produce her certificate when the team asked her to do so.
