Exercise maximum caution during nights: Army to civilians

Srinagar, Apr 6 (UNI) The Army today urged the civilians in Jammu and Kashmir to observe ''maximum caution'' in their movements at night.

A Defence Spokesman, in a statement here, said here that there was an ''unavoidable increase'' in the movement of civilians at night with the onset of summer and the approaching harvest season.

''Given the existing security environment, we request the civilian population to exercise maximum caution,'' he said.

The spokesman said the movement during night should be carried out only if absolutely necessary.

Whenever such movement is unavoidable it will be prudent to give prior information about the move to the security forces in and around the area to avoid any untoward incident, he added.

''We further urge the civilian population to carry properly lit lanterns or 'Mashals' (torchlights) so that their identity could be established by the security forces. These small steps will help us ensure safety of the innocent civilians,'' the spokesman said.
