Delhi BJP chief, 24 others court arrest, sent to judicial custody

New Delhi, Apr 6 (UNI) About 25 BJP leaders, led by Delhi BJP chief Harshvardhan, were today remanded to 14-day judicial custody after BJP activists, led by Dr Harshvardhan courted arrest against the ongoing sealing operations in the Capital.

As part of their 'Jail Bharo' agitation, the BJP activists held demonstrations and courted arrest at the Bhajan Pura chowk this morning.

While 210 activists were detained under the DP Act and later released, 25 leaders, including Mr Harshvardhan, MLAs Jaikishen Singh, Chaudhry Mahek Singh and ex-MLA Ram Prasad Singh were remanded to 14-day judicial custody till April 19, police said.

They have been lodged in the Tihar Jail, the police said.

Delhi BJP sources said the party's state unit will court arrest at Palam Colony tomorrow as part of its 'Jail Bharo Abhiyan'.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of All India Traders today said the Delhi traders would sit on a day-long hunger strike at Jantar Mantar tomorrow to demand immediate promulgation of an Ordinance on the sealing issue and release of arrested leaders.
