Dera Baba Nanak, Apr 6 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today announced the state government would initiate vigorous efforts with the centre to seek direct corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan to facilitate the devotees to pay obeisance at this historic shrine visible from the indian side of the border.

Addressing a rally here, Capt Singh said he had already taken up this matter with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during his recent visit at Amritsar when he came to flag off the direct bus service from Amritsar to Sri Nanakana Sahib. He said the Prime Minister had asked him to send a detailed proposal in this regard so that he could take up the matter with Pakistan President General Prevaiz Musharraf and the Ministry of External Affairs of Pakistan.

He said he would soon meet the Prime Minister to urge upon him to expedite the process of direct corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib.

Capt Singh said with the consistent efforts of India and Pakistan, both the countries had undertaken necessary measures which led to more trade linkages and the Indo-Pak dialogue had been broadened and diversified considerably.
