CII to host cargo-industry meet in Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is all set to host the first 'India Cargo Summit, in the capital on April 10-11, 2006, with leading international cargo and logistics' players addressing it.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel will address a Cargo-Industry night, being held as part of the two day meet. He will speak on the theme of creating a global cargo hub in India.

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia will also address the Summit.

The India Cargo Summit will focus on shipping and ocean freight, air cargo and express industry and surface transport and trucking.

Speakers from the shipping and ocean freight segment include Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) Group CEO David Lim, Shipping Corporation of India Chairman and Managing Director S Hajari and Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP) Chairman A L Bongirwar.

Singapore Air Cargo President Hwang Teng Aun, IATA Regional Cargo Head Peter Wong and DHL Express Country Manager Chris Callen will address the air cargo and express segment at the summit.

The various themes at the India Cargo Summit include 'Cargo--Driving Growth', 'Cargo--The Emerging Landscape', 'Cargo--The Policy Imperatives' among others.

The Summit will also focus on four specific industry verticals, which are expected to drive growth for the cargo sector in future.

These include FMCG, IT Hardware and Office Automation, Apparel and RMG, and Auto Components.
