China sees remarkable import growth in 2006

BEIJING, April 6 (Reuters) China expects to see dramatic growth in the volume of products it imports this year, Vice Commerce Minister Wei Jianguo said on Thursday.

The comments came as Chinese President Hu Jintao and U.S.

President George W.Bush were due to discuss trade and other issues in Washington later this month.

Asked about China's expectations towards its imports this year, Wei said: ''We will expand imports, especially in the sector of high-tech products.'' ''In this regard I'm sure that there will be remarkable growth this year,'' Wei told Reuters on the sidelines of a news conference.
