Chennai Port to launch passenger service to Kuala Lumpur

Chennai, Apr 6 (UNI) With the commissioning of the new passenger cruise terminal, Chennai Port is all set to launch a passenger service between Chennai and Kuala Lumpur.

Announcing this at a press meet here, Chennai Port Chairman K Suresh said 'Samrat Cruises', a private operator, had put forward a proposal for operating of service and it was under consideration to the government.

He said thanks to commissioning of the passenger cruise terminal, nine luxury cruise vessels had called on the port in 2005-06.

Notable among them were M V C Columbus, M V Explorer, M V Nippon Maru, M V Oriana, M V Saga Rubi and M V Super Star Libra. The last was the first cuise vessel with passengers embarking at Chennai port for a foreign destination, he said.

Chennai Port is fast becoming a gateway for passenger cruise vessels, he said, adding, on April 10, a 'library vessel' would arrive here and dock for a month. It would be open to the public from April 12. The 1912 model vessel had changed many hands, before becoming a 'library.' UNI WS CH HT1742
