Cash and gold worth lakhs looted at gunpoint

Rajahmundry, Apr 5 (UNI) Three unknown persons looted Rs 30,000 cash and gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees, from Sriram Bankers at Antervedipalem, Sakkinetipalli mandal of east godavari district.

Sakkinetipalli police station circle inspector, Mr RVSN Murthy, told UNI that the culprit entered into the Sriram Bankers at gun point and demanded Mr Alluri Ramachandra Raju and his accountant Mr P Subbarao Rs 15 lakhs for the party fund.

However, they took Rs 30,000 from them and gold ornaments were taken away by some unknown pseudo-naxals. The dacoity took place in between 1430 to 1530 hrs.

The police have registered a case under section 392 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act.

Meanwhile, east godavari district superintendent of police Naveen Chand and DSP J Kanaka Rao visited the scene and launched a hunt to trace the culprits, Mr Murthy added.

Unofficial sources said the gold stolen would be worth Rs 30 lakhs, while the police said the worth of the gold ornamnets was being assessed.
