Bangalore, Apr 6 (UNI) In a pioneering mobile phone service, Airtel Mobile Services today announced the world's first group call facility using a 64 bit SIM card in partnership with the US-based Kodiak Networks.

The innovative SIM technology, developed by Kodiak's development centre here, was the first of its kind in the world, allowing creation of multiple groups of up to nine members with flexibility to alter groups, Airtel Karnataka COO V Venkatesh told reporters here.

The Airtel Group Launch, currently covering Karnataka license circle, would be rolled out nationally in a phased manner with Delhi being the next city. Technological difficulties hinder in immediate roll out, he added.

Designed for both corporate and individual customers, the group call was an innovative voice service suit which would improve group communication.

Kodiak Networks Executive Vice-President Kris Patel said that for the first time in the world, group conference capabilities and other advanced voice services have been enabled through commercially available SIM card.
