ZOMI Council moots ceasefire with militants

Imphal, Apr 5 (UNI) The ZOMI Council in Churachandpur has urged Union Special Secretary (Home) Dr G S Rajagopal to declare ceasefire with the tribal militant groups.

The Council has submitted a memorandum to the Home ministry officials and suggested that ceasefire with orgaisations like Zomi Revolutionary Organisation(ZRO) should be declared.

The ZRO and its armed wing the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) had expressed desire to hold talks with the state government, the Council added.

Meanwhile, family members of two persons, killed yesterday at Bishenpur, have claimed that they were picked up by troops and later shot dead. One of them was a People's Liberation Army cadre.

Official release of Assam Rifles said three People's United Liberation Front (PULF) cadres were apprehended at Ukhrul district.

The All Manipur Students' Union has expressed unhappiness over the arrest of two of its officebearers by Assam Rifles.

The duo were released by police after no evidence was found from them.
