Youth sentenced to life imprisonment for murder

Thrissur, Apr 5(UNI) A local court today sentenced 25-year-old Kochu Suresh of Nedumangad to life imprisonment, eight years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 13,000 fine for stabbing a train passenger to death at the Thrissur railway station.

The Thrissur Fast Track Court No II Judge Joseph Thekkekuruvinal also ruled that Kochu Suresh alias Shiju will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for another nine months if he failed to remit the fine.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on April three, 2004, when the Guruvayur-Egmore train reached the Thrissur railway station from Guruvayur during night.

The accused tried to snatch money from the pocket of Issac alias Mani, 62. On facing resistance, he stabbed him. The seriously injured Mani was rushed to the Medical College Hospital by the police. He died there on April seven.

The accused was arrested on April nine by the then Circle Inspector of Thrissur East police station.
