WTO chief faces stiff criticism at meeting
New delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director General Pascal Lamy today faced stiff criticism from farmers and civil societies leaders, on the alleged role of the world body, favouring developed countries.
The protesting youth belonging to ''Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan'' suddenly got up when the meeting, was on and threw black badges and papers, carrying his organisations name towards Mr Lamy on the dias with UNCTAD representative Vina Jha and commerce Secretary SM Menon.
Amajority of farm and civil society organisation leaders accused the WTO of attepmting to industrialise the Indian agriculture which provides subsistance to 600 million people and the developed countries wanted to India to open up its farm sector to agri-business corporate enterprise.
