Vadodara-Surat Highway to be six-laned: Cabinet
New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) The Vadodara-Surat Highway, which is part of the Golden Quadrilateral (Delhi-Mumbai-Chennai-Kolkata), will be six-laned on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.
The approval for the project was given at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters.
An upfront negative grant of Rs 975 crore has already been offered in a competitive bidding procedure. CCEA has approved Rs 55.46 crore as the pre-construction expenditure for fulfilling the obligations of the employer under concession agreement.
The project benefits include improved traffic safety, faster movement of vehicles with improved riding quality and reduced travel time. This will result in reduction in vehicle operating cost and fuel consumption.
