OGP MLAs to forgo the DA during boycott of Assembly Session

Bhubaneswar, Apr 5 (UNI) The Opposition Orissa Gana Parishad(OGP) members in Orissa Assembly will not accept the Daily Allowances for the days they had boycotted the proceedings of the house.

A decision in this regard was taken at the meeting of the Party chaired by President Bijaya Mohapatra. The two OGP MLAs were present at the meeting.

The OGP decision came in the wake of criticism in the news papers about the Opposition members signing the register of the Assembly record to receive the DA even though they were not attending the session.

The entire Opposition in Orissa Assembly had boycotted the last five day of the Budget session stating that they were feeling unsafe inside the house and demanded security from the Speaker to attend the proceedings.

Later OGP MLA Arun De submitted a letter to Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty urging him to evolve a code of conduct from the next session for the members boycotting the session .

Mr Dey said the latter part of the Assembly session was very painful as the Opposition chose to abstain from the house for a reason they strongly feel justified.

The OGP MLA said he being an Opposition member has to join the team no matter what personal view he has on the matter. Mr Dey further said since he had not attended the deliberation in the House the accounts department may be kindly asked not to pay any DA during the days.

Mr Dey said he had all respect for the members right to abstain but at the same time, they should not claim DA and urged the Speaker to formulate a set of standard for the Assembly on the issue.
