Mother-in-law sentenced to death

Moga, Apr 5 (UNI) A local court of Additional Session Judge Sukhdev Singh convicted Harbans Kaur and sentenced her to death for killing her daughter-in-law Harpreet Kaur.

According to prosecution Harbans Kaur, resident of Kotisekhan sprinkled kerosene on her daughter-in-law when she was alone in the house. Later Harpreet was taken to Ferozpur hospital with more than 90 per cent burn injuries, where she died on March four 2005.

On the basis of two statements by the deceased Harpreet Kaur recorded by Assitant Sub-Inspector of Police and Judicial Magistrate considered as dying declarations, the Judge yesterday convicted Harbans Kaur and sentenced her to death subject to the confirmation of the High Court.
