KGS puts up excellent performance

Panaji, Apr 5 ( UNI) Kaiga Generating station (KGS), the 6th Atomic power station in the country, which commenced commercial operation from the year 2000, has shown excellent performance during the financial year 2005-06 by generating 2,860 million units of power against the targeted generation of 2,443 million units.

KGS unit I operated for 326 days at an availability factor of 89.21 percent, even after availing a planned shut down for 22 days for annual maintainance, whereas KGS unit II operated for 354 dys, with an availabilty factor of 97.04 percent, an official release today said.

As on March, 31, the station has completed 844 days of accident-free operation and 1,889 days of fire incident-free operation. The units operated at cent per cent availabity during seven months of the financial year. Kaiga generating station has been awared AFRB safety award for the year 2005 by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. National Safety Council of India awarded Yogyata Praman Patra to the unit, accouring to the official release issued here today.
