New Delhi, Apr 5: President A P J Abdul Kalam and Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat have greeted the people on the occasion of Ramnavmi which will be celebrated tomorrow.

''On this auspicious occasion of Ramnavami, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all my people. It is a beautiful day to celebrate. May this festival strengthen our resolve to strive for the well being, happiness and prosperity of the nation,'' Dr Kalam said in a message.

''The festival inspires us to serve needy and under-privileged persons with dedication and devotion as the service of humanity is real service of God,'' he said.

In a message, Mr Shekhawat said Ramnavmi was the day on which he descended on earth to serve the cause of righteousness and provide succour to the suffering humanity.

He said Bhagwan Ram personified, in his life and ideals, the sublime and eternal values of life and has been immortalised in popular consciousness as the Maryada Purushottam.

''The high standards of conduct and moral values followed by him are a timeless beacon to the entire humanity, which continues to illuminate our path. Ramnavmi reminds us of the greatness of Shri Ram's life and ideals, which have the power to rid us from evil and usher in a society based on ethical values, peace, happiness and prosperity,'' he said.

''Let us imbibe the enlightened and immortal ideals of Lord Rama,'' Mr Shekhawat said.
