Jamaat to support LDF in Assembly poll
Kozhikode, Apr 5 (UNI) Impressed by the anti-globalisation and US policies enumerated in the manifesto of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala, the Jamaat-E-Islami (JI) today said it would vote for the success of its candidates in the April/May Assembly poll in the state.
The decision was taken after a comparative study of the manifestos of the LDF as well as the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), its Kerala Amir T Arif Ali told reporters here.
The JI Central leadership had extended full support to the state circle on the issue, he said.
''Earlier we supported candidates, cutting across party affiliations, while considering their performances,'' but this time would wholeheartedly vote for the LDF, which talked against globalisation and opposed US policies on Iran nuclear issue, he said.
However, he said, JI would vote for the candidates, regardless of party affiliations wherever the Sangh Pariwar was strong.
He said top leaders of both the main political combinatons, including the UDF and LDF, had approched the JI seeking their votes but not formal understanding had been arrived at on the issue.
