"Inside Man" stays top of British box office

LONDON, Apr 5 (Reuters) ''Inside Man'', a hard-hitting thriller starring Denzel Washington and Clive Owen held the top spot in the UK box office charts for the second consecutive week, Screen International said.

The film about a robbery centres around a cat and mouse game between a bank robber, played by Owen, and Washington as a New York cop. It also stars Jodie Foster, who plays an intermediary with her own agenda.

''Failure To Launch'', the highest new entry, was at number two.

The romantic comedy stars Matthew McConaughey as a thirtysomething man reluctant to leave the comforts of his parents' home. It co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and grossed just over one million pounds over its first three days in cinemas.

At number three was another new entry ''The Shaggy Dog'' which stars Tim Allen as a man who copes with the trials of daily life, which include him turning into a sheepdog.

Horror film ''Hostel'' fell two places to number four. The film follows two American backpackers, played by Jay Hernandez and Derek Richardson, on a journey to eastern Europe that leads to them being drugged and sold to an organisation catering to jaded millionaires' sick fantasies.

At five was ''The Pink Panther'' while ''Basic Instinct 2'' was a new entry at six. The sequel to the hugely successful original of 1992 sees Sharon Stone once again in trouble with the law.

At seven was yet another new release. ''Firewall'', a thriller starring Harrison Ford as a security expert who robs a bank he is supposed to protect in order to pay off a ransom demand.

Comedy ''The Ringer'', was down three places to eighth while at number nine was new entry ''Yours, Mine And Ours''. The romantic comedy stars Dennis Quaid as a widowed admiral with 8 children who marries a widow with 10 offspring.

At 10 was futuristic terrorist thriller ''V For Vendetta''.
