HC turns down plea for CBI probe into Brahmapuram deal

Kochi, Apr 5 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today turned down a plea for entrusting the investigation on the alleged irregularities in the Brahmapuram hydel project deal to the CBI.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice J B Koshy said without knowing the details of the vigilance enquiry, it was not proper for the court at this stage to entrust the matter to the CBI, by exercising its writ jurisdiction.

In the writ petition filed by 'Crime' chief editor T P Nandakumar, a CBI inquiry was sought in the SNC Lavlin and Bramapuram hydel project deals. While the petition was pending, the state government decided to entrust the investigation in the Lavlin case to the CBI.

Regarding the Brahmapuram case, the Adovcate General submitted that the vigilance enquiry into the allegations had been conducted in a comprehensive and satisfactory manner and the final report was ready and awaiting legal opinion.

He further submitted that the chargesheet would be submitted to the trial court within a month.
