Five mega power projects cleared to generate additional power
Mathura, Apr 5 (UNI) Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today said five mega power projects have been cleared as part of the UPA government's resolve to generate additional one lakh MW electricity over the next six years.
Interacting with newspersons here, Mr Shinde informed that each of the five mega projects will generate 4,000 MW of power. A cost of 16,000 crore will be incurred on the commissioning of each of the five projects, two of which will come up in Maharashtra and Orissa, he added.
Mr Shinde also informed that keeping in mind the potential for increasing hydro power production, plans were afoot to put in place facilities in the North East for generating upto 50,000 MW hydro electricity.
