New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) President George Fernandes will contest again for the top post during the organisational elections of the party to be held during two-day National Council from April 11.

Mr Fernandes would file his nomination for the biannual polls on April 8 here. The National Council will meet in Patna to elect the party president, JD(U) General Secretary and spokesperson Shiv Kumar said in a statement here today.

Mr Fernandes had become JD(U) President when the Samata Party had merged with it on December 19, 2003.

This has set to rest the speculation about Mr Fernandes not contesting the party president post due to his frail health.

Mr Fernandes had undergone a surgery few months back at AIIMS.

Meanwhile, the possibility of Party Parliamentry Board President Sharad Yadav also filing his nominations could not be ruled out, according to party sources.

''There is possibility that other leaders may also file their nominations. This is a good sign of a health democratic party,'' they said.
