EC asks Bihar, Jharkhand to step up vigil viewing WB polls
New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today asked the governments of Jharkhand and Bihar states to step up vigil in view of coming general elections in neighbouring West Bengal.
The EC recently reviewed security situation of the three states along with their Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police.
The EC has asked Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Jharkhand to take all precautionary measures to seal the border before and during polls, besides stepping up security.
The districts of Pashchim Medinapur and Purulia that go for polling in phase one on April 17 are naxalite violence-infested.
The districts of Purulia, Pashchim Medinapur, Burdwan, Bhirbhum, Murshidabad and Malda in West Bengal share border with Jharkhand.
The districts of Malda, Uttar Dinajpur and Darjeeling share border with Bihar also.
