Don't confine daughters to home, provide them education: Wahieda

Jammu, Apr 5 (UNI) Surgeon lieutenant commander Wahida Prizm of Jammu and Kashmir advocated proper education for women to fulfil their dreams.

''Please don't keep your daughters inside home or in 'purdah' (veil). Let them decide their carreer like me, they may also become second wahida,'' she said in her home town in Rajouri district.

Lt Cdr Prizm received a rousing welcome last week after she came back from Pune where she had not only carved a niche for herself by becoming the first woman officer of the country to lead a passing out parade of the Armed Forces Medical College on March 14, but also became a source of inspiration for all women of the state.

''Right from childhood, I wanted to do something which nobody had done before and luckily I got the opportunity to shape up my dream. If you have a strong determination, you can achieve any goal, Lt Cdr Prizm said.

Few years back al-Badr, a Taliban-supported outfit, had started pasting posters in the hilly Thana Mandi village forcing women to wear 'burqa'.

Although the village was strongly affected by militants, Ms Wahieda proved her mettle to become a role model.
