Congress seeks ban on controversial books in Rajasthan
New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) The Congress today condemned the reported inclusion of imaginary pictures of Prophet Mohammad in primary text books in Rajasthan.
"After the cartoon controversy in European newspapers, it is common knowledge that the Muslim community is very sensitive about pictures and sketches of the Prophet," AICC Secretary Anees Durrani said in a statement issued here.
Yet, he said the BJP-led Rajasthan Government was ignoring primary syllabus books with 'imaginary' pictures of the Prophet in private schools. This was a deliberate attempt to hurt the feelings of the Muslim community, he added.
The AICC Secretary said it was "shameful" that despite the protests from local Muslim organisations the administration had refused to ban the books. "We demand that Rajasthan Government should immediately ban the controversial books," he added.
